Kiser scores program-record 48 points as Raptors cruise to victory in season opener

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - Bard College women's basketball sophomore Christina Kiser scored a program-record 48 points as the Raptors defeated Bay Path University 101-48 in Friday evening's season opener, setting a team record for points in a single game in the process.

The game was tied midway through the first quarter at 4-4, but the Raptors (1-0) took over from that point on. Bard went on an 11-0 run, with Kiser providing seven of the 11 points as Bard took a 21-5 lead into the second quarter.

Following two early free throws by the Wildcats (0-3), the Raptors locked down defensively, not surrendering another point for the rest of the quarter. Freshman Marissa Munsell made back-to-back baskets to stretch the lead to 19, and six different players got on the scoresheet as Bard ended the half by scoring 29 unanswered points, going into the intermission with a 51-7 lead.

The teams played a much more evenly contested third quarter, as both teams scored 22 points to head into the final period with Bard leading by a 73-29 score. Kiser continued her dominant play in the fourth, scoring 13 points in the quarter to get to 48 points, breaking the previous record of 42 that had stood for 23 years. The Raptors closed out the night in impressive fashion, picking up a 101-48 win.

On the night, Kiser scored 48 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and added four assists. Sophomore Olivia Couture added 15 points and five rebounds, while sophomore Jess Rylander chipped in with 12 points and seven assists. Munsell scored 10 and brought in 11 rebounds, and junior Katie Esposito finished the night with eight points and nine rebounds.

The Raptors shot 48.6 percent from the field and 78.8 percent from the free throw line, while holding Bay Path to a 24.1 shooting percentage and forcing 29 turnovers.
