ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The game wasn't even a minute old when Bard freshman
Nicolas Soucy blasted a shot from beyond the top of the box that rang off the far post.
That near miss turned out to be the Raptors' best opportunity to score on Saturday, as Union held off Bard, 1-0, in a Liberty League game.
The Dutchmen (9-3-0 overall, 2-3-0 Liberty League) seemed a bit taken aback by Bard's early push, but soon settled in and dominated possession for the rest of the afternoon. That dominance resulted in numerous scoring chances, numerous saves by Bard keeper
Logan Leppo, but no goals in the first half in spite of a 10-2 edge in shots.
That changed early in the second half when Jeremy Conn (Woodbridge, CT) sent Salvador Lopez Jr. (Port Chester, NY) in alone on Leppo with a deft pass, and Lopez deposited it into the low left corner from close range for a 1-0 Union lead. It turned out to be enough.
Leppo made 10 saves for the Raptors (1-10-1, 0-5-0).
