Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Bard defeated by Vassar College in rainy contest

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College men's soccer team lost to Vassar College, 4-0, Wednesday evening in a Liberty League contest, following a lightning delay that lasted nearly two hours.

The night started at 7 p.m. with the opening whistle, as the Raptors (3-6-1 overall, 0-2 Liberty League) and Brewers of Vassar (6-2, 2-0 LL) played the opening 10 minutes in a torrential downpour.

During the opening minutes, the Raptors managed a beautiful chance on offense, as Antonio Scanni made a long run with the ball, before finding Isaac Yelchin streaking toward goal. Scanni sent a through ball ahead to Yelchin, who got a shot off just before the Vassar keeper was able to grab it. Unfortunately for Bard, the goalie got just enough on the shot to knock it out of harm's way.

A few minutes later, the first lightning of the night was seen, forcing both squads inside for the next half hour. The delay continued until play was finally able to resume around 9 p.m.

Once the teams came back from the delay, it was all Vassar the rest of the way.

Henrik Olsson (Tokyo, Japan) scored a point-blank shot in the 37th minute to put the Brewers ahead. In the 43rd minute, Jonathan Bow (San Francisco, CA) doubled the lead for the guests. Bow finished a tap-in chance, after receiving a deadly ground cross right across the goal mouth from Mattie Mrlik (San Francisco, CA).

The score remained 2-0 heading into halftime, as Vassar was able to limit Bard to just the one shot in the opening half.

The Brewers scored two more in the second half, as goals from Mrlik and Garrett Lusk (Arlington, VA) pushed the score to its final total, 4-0.

Logan Leppo collected five saves for the Raptors, while Will Marment (Stamford, CT) finished with a save and the win for Vassar.

Up next for Bard is another tough Liberty League contest, as the team hosts Hobart College on September 29th at 2 p.m. You can follow that game right here.
