ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College women's lacrosse team lost to the University of Rochester, 19-8, Friday afternoon in a Liberty League matchup.
Before the game, Bard College and the women's lacrosse team opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony to honor the first game played on the brand-new turf field, which had been installed on Ferrari Field over the past few weeks.
Raptors' goalie Kaylynn Tran was certainly excited to be the first to play on the field, as she was the first player on either side to come out onto the field today for warmups. She followed up her excitement with a career day, as the senior tallied 18 saves, which broke her previous mark of 16.
Despite Tran's great effort in goal, the Raptors collected the loss on the day. For much of the first half, every time Bard scored a goal, the Yellowjackets of Rochester answered with two of their own, stopping any Bard momentum.
To open the game, Rochester score twice in the first two minutes, before Melissa Rosenthal got Bard on the score sheet. After two more goals for the guests, Dylan McDonald scored for the Raptors to make it 4-2.
At halftime, the Yellowjackets led 8-4, as the hosts also picked up goals from Casey Witte and Caleigh DeCaprio.
The second half saw no letdown from Rochester though, as the team came out and scored four of the first five goals of the second frame.
Goals from Nicole Ellin and McDonald cut the Bard deficit to 13-7 with just 22:07 remaining, but that was as close as Bard would get the rest of the way.
McDonald (three goals) and DeCaprio (2 g, 1a) tied for the team-lead with three points each in the effort.
Rosenthal meanwhile, finished with a goal, an assist, a caused turnover, two ground balls and six draw controls for Bard.
On the other side, Madeline Levy (Cheshire, CT) led the Yellowjackets with six goals in the win.
Up next for the Raptors is a home matchup with RIT tomorrow (4/7) at noon. You can follow that game right here.
