MADISON, N.J. - The Bard College men's lacrosse team fell from the ranks of the unbeaten, losing 12-7 at FDU-Florham in a non-league game on Wednesday night.
The Raptors (3-1), down three defensive starters, got off to a slow start and trailed, 6-1, early in the second quarter. Bard was gritty and matched FDU goal-for-goal from there, but the Devils' lead in the second half was never threatened. It was 7-3 at halftime and 10-4 going into the fourth quarter.
The transition game was part of the problem, as Bard went 14-for-23 on clears and turned it over 20 times.
Freshman Alex Orizietti (Bernardsville, NJ) led the hosts (3-1) with four goals and two assists. The Devils outshot Bard, 50-29, and won the ground ball battle, 45-27.
Bard got three goals from
John Palermo, two goals and an assist from
George Goceljak, and one goal and one assist from
Corey Rich.
Emmet O'Connell added a single goal. Freshman goalie
Lyle Healey was solid, stopping 19 shots.
Blake Burnley led Bard with four ground balls;
Will Hughes had a pair of caused turnovers.
Bard will next play on Tuesday, hosting SUNY Cobleskill at Dietz Stadium. You can follow that game via Live Stats right here.
