Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Bard tops MCLA, 14-4

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Bard College women's lacrosse team defeated the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts Sunday afternoon, 14-4, in a chilly contest.

The Raptors (1-1) seemed to be unaffected by the frigid temperature, as they opened the match on fire, scoring on three of their first four shot attempts.

The first goal came less than five minutes into the game, as Casey Witte easily beat the keeper on a close shot.

Bard followed that goal up with another just 44 seconds later, as Caleigh DeCaprio found the back of the net for her first of four goals on the day.

Witte, just four minutes after the DeCaprio goal, doubled up her goal total, scoring her second of the match to put the hosts up, 3-0.

Following a timeout from MCLA (0-1), the Trailblazers fought back, scoring two straight goals, one from Natalie Caney (Belchertown, MA) and the other from Kim Granito (Glenmont, NY), to cut the lead to just a one-goal game.

However, the Raptors' offense was just getting started.

Bard responded by scoring nine straight goals before the halftime whistle sounded to give the team a, 12-2, advantage heading into the break.

The Raptors' rally continued into the second half, as they scored twice more, giving them 11-straight goals to push the lead to, 14-2.

MCLA added two goals later in the half to slightly cut into Bard's dominance, but the result was well in hand by that point for the Raptors.

On the day, DeCaprio led the way for Bard with her seven points (four goals, three assists).

Marion Adams, Melissa Rosenthal and Dylan McDonald each finished with two goals and an assist for the hosts.

Witte ended the day with the two goals, while Nicole Ellin and Daisy Noe each scored once in the victory.

Caney and Granito each scored twice to led the Trailblazers.

Bard won all the major team categories in the match, topping MCLA in ground balls (24-11), clears (12-of-16 to 7-of-14) and draw controls (13-7).

Kaylynn Tran recorded nine saves for Bard, while Zoe Elwell (Clifton Park, NY) finished with eight saves for MCLA.

Up next for the Raptors is a home contest against New Paltz on March 15th. That game will start at 6:00 p.m. and will be played at Dietz Stadium. You can follow in right here via Live Stats.
