ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Bard College men's soccer team was defeated by the Rochester Institute of Technology Saturday afternoon, 6-1, in a Liberty League contest.
The game was tightly contested during the opening 45 minutes, resulting in a 1-1 tie at halftime.
The Tigers of RIT opened the scoring off a strike from Simon Garno (Hilton, NY) in the 17th minute.
Bard would quickly respond however, as
John Flynn scored in the 23rd minute, following a linkup with
Jasper Shorter. Flynn received the ball about 15 yards out and was able to place it into the top right corner, giving the goalie no chance to stop it.
The goal was Flynn's third of the year and the assist was the first of the season for Shorter.
Over the final five minutes of the first half, the Raptors' defense battled, dealing with five corner kicks and a shot on goal that
Taylor Bond was able to save.
RIT continued its offensive fury into the second half, with more shots and corner kicks. Finally, the hosts broke through.
The Tigers used a three-goal stretch over an eight minute span early in the second half to pull away from Bard and tacked on two more goals later in the half to seal the win.
Flynn finished the game with two shots on goal, while Bond collected five saves for Bard in the effort.
Up next for the Raptors is a home contest against Union College on October 25th. That game is scheduled for 7 p.m. and you can follow it right here.
