Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's soccer falls to Clarkson at home

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College men's soccer team was defeated in a back-and-forth contest Saturday afternoon, falling to the Golden Knights of Clarkson University, 1-0, in a Liberty League matchup.

The lone goal came in the 62nd minute, when Aidan Subra (Highland Park, IL) hooked up with Kevin Calnan (Winchester, MA). Subra received the ball running down the left side and beat a defender inside, where he saw Calnan waiting at the top of the penalty box.

Subra sent the ball over to Calnan, who made a move to his right and unleashed a shot a split second before the Bard defenders could stop him.

The ball sailed in perfectly between the left post and Taylor Bond's outstretched right arm, giving Clarkson (6-6-1, 2-3-1 LL) the lead.

After the goal, Bond stepped up for the Raptors, making some tough saves in goal. In the 73rd minute, Clarkson was awarded a penalty kick after a foul in the box on a breakaway.

Bond guessed correctly on the shot, diving to his right to make the stop. However, Calnan pushed the ball wide left, keeping the score 1-0.

Bond finished the game with six saves for Bard, while Riley McDonald (Niskayuna, NY) tallied two for Clarkson.

Although the Raptors (3-9-1, 0-5-1 LL) didn't produce many shots in the contest, the team did have a few scoring opportunities to begin the second half.

Early in the second frame, Nick Shenberger used his body to block a pass near midfield. The striker found himself all alone on a breakaway, but as the ball came back down on off the block, it bounced back up and hit Shenberger's arm for a Bard foul.

Minutes later, Shenberger sent a wonderful ground cross into the box, where Jackson Barratt Heitmann was waiting right in front of net. However, before he could get his foot on the ball, a Clarkson defender managed to step in front and block it away.

Up next for the Raptors is their final road game of the year, at RIT on October 21st. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. and you can follow that game right here.
