Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

2nd half woes doom Raptors, fall 42-33

ALBANY, N.Y. - The Bard College women's basketball team lost to Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Wednesday night, 42-33.

The Raptors (0-7) played a game of two halves, jumping out to an early lead in the first half, only to struggle over the final 20 minutes. Bard opened the night trailing the Panthers (5-3) early in the first quarter, 6-2.

But over the final seven minutes of the quarter, the Raptors rallied and took control, thanks to an 11-3 run that put them up,13-9.

Once the second quarter commenced, Bard continued to push offensively. The visitors extended their lead to 22-11, thanks to a jumper from Sarah Morris with 4:57 remaining in the second quarter and looked well on their way to their first victory of the season.

Unfortunately, over the final 25 minutes of the game, the Raptors couldn't buy a basket.

Following the layup from Morris, Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences went on a run of their own, scoring the next 14 points to take 25-22 lead. The Raptors scoring struggles became evident during the Panthers' run. Over the 12-minute span, from 4:57 remaining in the second quarter until 3:22 remained in the third quarter, Bard was held scoreless.

The visitors were finally able to break the spell with a pair of jumpers at the end of the quarter, but the Panthers maintained their lead at the end of three, 29-26.

During the fourth quarter, Bard was never able to rally back and ultimately fell, 42-33. Over the course of the second half, the Raptors were outscored 25-11.

Bard lost the all-important turnover battle pretty handily, committing 28 turnovers compared to the Panthers' 15. The Raptors were able to beat Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in shooting percent, 31 percent to 26 percent, but couldn't secure a victory because of the turnover difference.

Caleigh DeCaprio and Annie Kissel tied for the team-lead with eight points each for the Raptors. Alexis Akingbade once again posted a double-digit rebounding effort, securing 11 boards on the night.

Dannie Griffin (Paramus, NJ) lead the Panthers with a double-double, as she had 11 points and 10 rebounds.

The Raptors will wrap up the semester, Saturday, December 10th, at home as they host SUNY Cobleskill at 3 p.m.
