GENEVA, N.Y. - An early double-digit lead evaporated by halftime, and the Bard College men's basketball team lost its fourth straight Liberty League game, falling at Hobart, 76-67, on Friday night.
In a game devoid of big runs, this one was lost in a gradual, slow burn. Bard was up four after five minutes, up 10 after 10 minutes, up four after 15 minutes, and down one at halftime.
It continued that way in the second half. Bard was down four after five minutes, down seven after 10 minutes, down eight after 15 minutes ... and lost by nine.
Things were looking good early for the Raptors (6-10, 3-4 Liberty League), who raced out to a 15-4 lead on some hot shooting. Bard shot 46 percent in the first half, but Hobart (7-8, 3-3) overcame its cold start to lead, 37-36, at halftime.
In the second half, Hobart's shooting picked up while Bard's declined. The Statesmen gradually pushed the lead to 10 with 7:14 left and it looked like it might be over.
A 9-2 run for Bard culminating with a three-pointer from
Harry Johnson cut Hobart's lead to 65-62 with 2:56 left. But Hobart responded with a three-pointer from Colin Dougherty (Lockport, NY) at the other end, and Bard didn't get closer than five the rest of the way.
Dougherty led all scorers with 24 points, and fellow freshman Jamal Lucas (New York, NY) added 21.
Bard got 20 points, seven rebounds and five assists from
DeVahnte Mosley, and a career-high 15 points from
Pat Kelly, 13 in the first half.
The Raptors will have to quickly rest up before Saturday's 4 p.m. tip at Rochester Institute of Technology. You can follow that game via Live Stats right here.
