Bell's career-high 30 leads Raptors past Elms, 74-70

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Senior guard Bianka Bell scored a career-high 30 points, including 16 in the fourth quarter, to lead the Bard College women's basketball team to a 74-70 victory over Elms College in a non-league game on Saturday afternoon.

The win was Bard's fifth of the season, eclipsing the four victories the Raptors (5-4) collected all of last winter.

A tightly-contested game throughout, it all came down to the fourth quarter.

Bard led, 48-45, entering the final quarter, and a layup from Bell with 6:51 left gave Bard what was its biggest lead of the game to that point, 59-53. Amazingly, Bard did not make another field goal for the rest of the game - but it didn't matter - because the Raptors made 14-of-17 from the foul line over those last six minutes, including 10-of-12 from Bell.

Elms (4-4) cut the deficit to four on four different occasions down the stretch, the last two times on desperation three-pointers, but whoever they sent to the foul line for Bard to stop the clock ending up coming through with made free throws. It was usually Bell.

Emily Burr (East Hartford, CT) led Elms with 13 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Mariah Brown (Windsor Locks, CT) had 12 points and JC Pickett (Chicopee, MA) had 10. Chaniah Pantry (New Haven, CT) had 10 rebounds for the Blazers.

Bell added six rebounds and four assists to her 30 points. Tytravia Riley, limited by early foul trouble, finished with 17 points and 18 rebounds. Key to the victory was a career-high 13 points and eight rebounds from freshman Sarah Morris - including 5-for-5 from the foul line. Alexis Akingbade added five points and 11 rebounds, building Bard's rebounding edge to 59-46.

The Raptors only have Liberty League games remaining in the 2015-16 season. They open next semester for four straight road games, beginning with a game at Skidmore on Jan. 2. Follow that game and all Liberty League games live right here.
