ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – Sophomore striker
Nick Shenberger scored twice to lead the Bard College men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over the College of Staten Island in a non-league game on Saturday.
Shenberger's 14th and 15th goals of the season moved him into second place all-time at Bard for points in a season with 36.
After struggling to move the ball early, Bard created several chances late in the opening half. In the 39th minute, a long, line-drive cross from
Tamaki Chiba found a leaping Shenberger in the box, and his header beat Staten Island keeper Kyle Coffey (Brooklyn, NY) to the far post.
The Raptors produced three scoring opportunities in the first two minutes of the second half, and just four minutes in, Shenberger struck again, jumping on a loose ball in the box and blasting it to the top right corner for a 2-0 lead.
Bard finished with a 19-17 advantage in shots, and each teams had five corners.
Daniel Gagne made six saves against the Dolphins, who are 8-8-1.
The Raptors have two games remaining, both in the Liberty League. They'll host Skidmore on Tuesday night, then play at Vassar on Saturday morning. Follow both games via Live Stats or Live Video right here.
