SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Bard College men's soccer team lost to Union, 6-1, in a Liberty League game on Saturday afternoon.
Bard did have an 18-16 shot advantage in the game, but Union jumped out to a big lead and was never headed.
Union went ahead 4-0 after 45 minutes. The first goal was a direct kick taken by Nicholas Hall-Risko (Bedford, NY) in the 10
th minute. Trevor Pauldine (Baldwinsville, NY)) added to the lead in the 19
th minute off a corner kick, before a header by Matthew Christal (Rye Brook, NY) made it 3-0 on a corner kick taken by Jason Miller (Needham, MA).
The Dutchmen made it 4-0 with a penalty kick taken in 42
nd minute by Carl Farber (Centereach, NY), before making it 5-0 in the 50
th minute on an own-goal by the Raptors.
Brendan Byrne scored the lone tally for Bard on a penalty kick in the 80
th minute, before Connor (Norwell, MA) made it 6-1 in the 82
nd minute.
Union had a 9-0 advantage on corner kicks, and four of those six goals came off of corners.
Taylor Bond had six saves for the visitors. John Weitzman played (Armonk, NY) 75 minutes in net and earned the victory for Union, turning away three shots, while Daniel Walsh (Waldwick, NJ) had two saves in the final 15 minutes.
