ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - After a slow start, the Bard College men's soccer team found its legs and rolled over Hunter College, 3-0, in a non-league game on Sunday afternoon.

Freshman Shaw McCabe had a goal and an assist as the Raptors picked up their first win of the 2014 season.

Bard (1-1) wasn't sharp early - perhaps a hangover from Friday night's 3-2 overtime loss to Mount Saint Mary College - but got a spark when McCabe entered the game in the 12th minute. Held without a shot for the first 12 minutes, Bard produced three in the few minutes after McCabe entered - one each from Daniel Yacar, Austin Higgins and David Mamukelashvili.

Then in the 19th minute, McCabe got Bard on the board. He ran onto a long ball from Brendan Byrne, played from the back, and after it took one hop, volleyed it beautifully over the outstreched hands of Hunter keeper Emmanuel Aprilakis (Richmond Hill, NY) from the top of the box.

It remained 1-0 at halftime, with Bard holding a 6-3 advantage in shots.

The Raptors came out flying in the second half and put immediate pressure on the Hawks. In the 54th minute, a long throw-in by McCabe into the box was flicked to the far post by Austin Higgins, and put in by freshman Nick Shenberger to make it 2-0.

Less than four minutes later, Mamukelashvili made it 3-0 after another beautiful long pass from the back, this one from Antonio Scanni. Mamukelashvili ran onto the pass, took it on a hop with his head, then blasted a shot from close range that beat Aprilakis high.

Taylor Bond made six saves to pick up his first collegiate victory.

Bard will play it's third game in five days on Tuesday night against Sage at 8:15. That game will be played at the Plumeri Sports Complex near the College of St. Rose.
