William Smith fights off stubborn Bard, 62-52

Sophomore Bianka Bell had 14 points, four rebounds and four assists on Friday night.

GENEVA, N.Y. - The Bard College women's basketball team was up, 4-0, when William Smith College went on an 18-0 run to take charge on Friday night.

Even though the Raptors outscored the Herons over the course of the rest of the game, they never got closer than six, and lost, 62-52, in a Liberty League game.

Bard (1-17, 0-9 Liberty League) rallied from that 18-4 deficit to make it 28-22 with 2:14 left in the half, but the Herons (16-5, 9-3 Liberty League) led, 31-22, at the break. William Smith shot 50 percent from the field in the first half, but Bard shot 42 percent and was hanging around.

Bard scored 10 of the first 17 points in the second half to cut the deficit to six again, 38-32, with 15:15 to go in the game, but it wasn't to be. The Herons went on a 17-6 run to put the game away.

The winners were led by junior Chloe Hayter (Lititz, PA), who had 23 points and seven rebounds in 27 minutes. Erin O'Brien (Buffalo, NY) and Melanie Patterson (Vestal, NY) added 15 points apiece.

Bard was led by Tytravia Riley's 16 points and 10 rebounds. Bianka Bell added 14 points, four rebounds and four assists.
