Bard finishes season with loss at St. Lawrence

CANTON, N.Y. - The Bard College women's basketball team finished the 2013-14 season with a 70-50 loss at St. Lawrence University on Saturday.

The Saints, 18-7 overall and 14-2 in the Liberty League, head into next week's playoffs at the top seed. Bard is 1-24, 0-16.

A 10-0 run early in the first half gave St. Lawrence a cushion, and Bard never led. It was 36-19 at the half.

St. Lawrence got 19 points, eight rebounds and four blocks from senior Kelly Legg (Fairport, NY), and 17 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks from junior Kara McDuffie (Owego, NY). The Saints outrebounded Bard, 48-34.

Bard got 20 points from sophomore Bianka Bell, who has suddenly emerged as an offensive threat as the season has wound down. Bell averaged 17.6 points per game over Bard's final six games, all in conference play. Tytravia Riley added 12 points and six rebounds.

The conference playoffs begin next week, and all-conference teams and award winners will be announced.
