Second-half burst pushes RPI past Bard

TROY, N.Y. - A quick 9-0 burst early in the second half turned a one-point deficit into an eight-point lead, and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute women's basketball team defeated Bard College, 65-51, in a Liberty League game on Tuesday night.

Bard, 1-19 overall and 0-11 in the Liberty League, outscored RPI 8-2 over the last 2:47 of the first half to go into the break down, 29-28. A layup by Abbey Labrecque put Bard up, 36-34, with 14:51 to go in the game.

Over the next three-plus minutes, RPI outscored Bard 9-0, and although Bard cut the lead to five a couple of times as the second half progressed, RPI (7-15, 5-8 Liberty League) pulled away on the strength of 8-for-10 from the foul line in the last 20 minutes.

The winners got 16 points and 12 rebounds from junior Amanda Lynch (Middletown, NY), 11 points from Zysnia Osepa (Melrose, NY), and 10 points apiece from Ashley Clough (West Chesterfield, NH) and Jackie Sortor (Colchester, VT).

Bard sophomore Tytravia Riley had another big game with 19 points, 18 rebounds and three steals. Bianka Bell added 10 points, nine rebounds and four assists.
