ALBANY, N.Y. - The Bard College women's basketball team got a doubile-double from
Tytravia Riley but just didn't shoot the ball well enough to win in a 62-52 loss to Albany College of Pharmacy in a non-league game on Thursday night.
It was close early, but the Panthers (5-1) built a nine-point lead midway through the first half. Bard (2-3) rallied to tie with 4:01 left, only to see Albany Pharmacy respond with a 9-0 run to end the half, 35-26.
The Panthers maintained their lead and stretched it to 11 a couple of times in the first part of the second half, but the Raptors responded again. An 8-0 Bard run cut Albany Pharmacy's lead to 43-40 with 10:14 left in the game.
The Panthers got a pair of three-pointers from Megan Serley (Oriskany, NY) during a 12-2 run that ensued, and the Raptors didn't get closer than 10 the rest of the way. Serley finished with six three-pointers and a game-high 21 points. Taylor Sullivan (Troy, NY) added 19 points and 10 rebounds, and Alexa Schooley (Auburn, NY) added 11 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists.
Riley had 14 points, 17 rebounds, three assists and three steals to lead Bard.
Joanna Regan hit three threes and finished with 12 points, and
Gabriela Piercy added nine points.
Liz Freud contributed eight points and four rebounds. Bard shot 30 percent from the field.
It was the second game in two nights for Bard, which has Friday to rest before taking on Utica College at home on Saturday at 2. It begins a stretch of three straight home games to close out the first semester: Saturday vs. Utica, Tuesday vs. New Rochelle, and next Saturday vs. Elms.
