Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Riley, Bell shine, but Raptors lose opener, 57-50

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. - A game that had been close all along was suddenly not so close any more. Morrisville State had pushed a two-point halftime lead to nine a couple of times in the second half, and with eight minutes left, that nine-point lead looked pretty large.

Bard responded with a 13-2 run to take a 48-46 lead with 5:26 to go, then got outscored 11-2 down the stretch in a season-opening 57-50 loss.

The Raptors went 0-for-5 from the field with a pair of turnovers in those final five minutes, and it ruined what would have been a great comeback victory for coach Sarah Cartmill's first game.

Tytravia Riley and Bianka Bell carried the Raptors as far as they could go - Riley had 13 points and 15 rebounds in the second half alone - but it wasn't enough as the Mustangs improved to 1-2.

Three players scored in double figures for the winners. Jordan Anderson (West Edmeston, NY) had 12 points and six assists; Haley Kilmartin (Fort Plain, NY) had 12 points, and Alyssa Gratien (Syracuse, NY) added 11 points and seven rebounds.

Bell scored 12 of her 20 points in the first half. Riley finished with 21 points and 20 rebounds, and Joanna Regan chipped in with seven assists.

Up next for Bard is the 4th Annual Kevin Fee/Roos Classic hosted by SUNY Canton. The Raptors will play host SUNY Canton on Saturday night at 7, then take on Alfred State on Sunday at noon. Live Stats will be available for all of the games at the tournament.
