POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - On paper, Tuesday night's women's basketball game between Bard College and Vassar College was going to be a blowout of epic proportions.
But the games aren't played on paper, and the Raptors stubbornly went down, 79-61, in a Liberty League game.
Bard, 1-12 overall and 0-4 in the Liberty League, got down nine early and it looked like it was going to be a long night. But Bard put together an 11-4 run midway through the second half, cut the deficit to one a couple of times and trailed, 31-28, at halftime.
After matching a season-best with only four first-half turnovers, though, the Raptors committed six in under four minutes early in the second half as Vassar went on a 15-3 run and won going away.
In the end, Bard committed 17 turnovers - 13 in the second half - and gave up 48 second-half points. Vassar (11-3, 4-1 Liberty League) shot 51 percent from the field in the game and made 6-of-12 three-pointers.
The winners were led by Cydni Matsuoka (Sacramento, CA), who had 22 points and four assists. Caitlyn Drakeley (Woodbury, CT) added 16 points and seven rebounds, Hannah Senftleber (Burlington, VT) finished with 15 points and seven rebounds, and Allyson Pemberton (Weston, MA) chipped in with 13 points off the bench.
