ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - Things were going along just fine. The Bard women's basketball team was battling toe-to-toe with Rensselaer in its Liberty League opener on Tuesday night, and it was a competitive, gritty contest.
The Raptors led, 42-40, with 8:58 left in the game.
But RPI put together a 17-2 run and ran away with a 75-54 win to improve to 1-2 in the Liberty League, 3-9 overall.
It was a stunning turnaround, considering Bard had a lead as big as eight in the first half and trailed by just three at halftime, 31-28. There were six ties in the second half before RPI's fateful run, which lasted just over four minutes and was complete with about five minutes left in the game.
Bard went 1-for-5 from the field, 0-for-2 from the foul line and turned it over twice during that stretch; RPI went 6-for-6 from the field and 4-for-4 from the foul line at the same time. The game was over.
RPI sophomore Ashley Clough (West Chesterfield, NH) scored 16 of her 20 points in the second half, and junior Amanda Lynch (Middletown, NY) scored 15 of her team-high 23 in the second half.
Bard got another overpowering performance from sophomore
Tytravia Riley, who finished with 23 points and 18 rebounds. She went 6-for-8 from the field and 11-for-12 from the foul line. Sophomore
Bianka Bell added 12 points and six rebounds.
