Box Score ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The William Smith College women's basketball team came out pressing in Saturday's game at Bard, and the Raptors struggled mightily.
Bard couldn't break the press. When the Raptors did get across halfcourt, there were usually about 13 seconds left on the shot clock, and they weren't getting many good looks. In the first half alone, Bard committed 20 turnovers and was down 28-18, at halftime. Eight minutes into the second half, the deficit was 18. It didn't look good.
Bard put together a 17-5 run over a 10-minute span, however, and William Smith's lead was suddenly only 44-38 with 2:47 left in the game. The Raptors even had the ball.
That's when the turnover problem rose up again. Bard turned it over on consecutive possessions, the Herons scored five straight points, and that was it. Bard never got closer than six but threw a major scare into a solid Liberty League team, losing 52-46.
Box score
The Raptors (7-17 overall, 1-14 Liberty League) ended up outscoring William Smith in the second half, 28-24, but those 20 turnovers in the first half - plus the 10 they committed in the second half - conspired to make an upset bid unlikely at best.
Bard was led by freshman
Tytravia Riley, who fiished with 15 points, 20 rebounds and four steals. Freshman
Bianka Bell and senior
Imani Jones added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
William Smith (14-8, 8-5) got 16 points from senior Sydni Salvatore (Walpole, MA).
