NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - Things were looking pretty good at halftime.
Bard was up, 28-24, on College of New Rochelle, and one of the Blue Angels' stars was entering the second half with four fouls.
But College of New Rochelle (7-1) turned up the pressure in the second half and ran away with a 69-50 win, forcing 35 Bard turnovers for the game and outscoring the Raptors 35-16 over the final 15 minutes. Bard is 0-5.
New Rochelle had the lead early in the game, but Bard rallied to tie, then went ahead late when sophomore Jasmine Brandon (Jersey City, NJ) went to the bench with 3:59 left in the half with four fouls. She had six points and eight rebounds at that point. Bard's
Tytravia Riley had a double-double after 20 minutes with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
But the turnovers really started to mount in the second half. Brandon returned to the game with 14:32 left and the game tied. Riley went to Bard's bench with her fourth foul a little over a minute later. While Riley sat, New Rochelle went on a 15-6 run over six minutes, and Bard didn't get closer than five the rest of the way. Twenty-one of Bard's 35 turnovers came in the last 20 minutes.
Brandon scored 17 of her 23 points with four fouls, and finished with 10 rebounds. Junior college transfer Jah-Leah Ellis (Harlem, NY) added 20 points and 14 rebounds for the winners.
Riley finished with 25 points and 14 rebounds in 31 minutes.
Abbey Labrecque added six points, seven assists and eight rebounds.
Bard has played its first five games on the road. When the Raptors host SUNY Canton on Sunday at 1 in their home opener, it'll start a seven-game homestand that will bridge Winter Break.
