Bard falls to Elms; Riley finishes with double-double

CHICOPEE, Mass. - The Bard College women's basketball team lost to Elms College, 73-44, in a non-league game on Tuesday night.

Bard led 2-0 in the first minute, then never led again. The Blazers (1-2) outrebounded Bard 23-13 in the first half, and built a 10-point lead at the break on the strength of 11 second-chance points. Also, after averaging five three-pointers made in each of its first two games, Elms made five in the first half against Bard.

A 10-2 run to start the second half put the game away. After shooting 41 percent from the field in the first half, Bard (0-4) shot 20 percent in the second half (6-for-29) and went 6-for-19 from the foul line in the game. Elms outrebounded Bard 50-38 overall.

Junior Denisha Parks (Fall River, MA) led Elms with 26 points and 11 rebounds. Junior Gianna Youngblood (East Freetown, MA) added 14 points and nine rebounds.

Sophomore Tytravia Riley had 17 points, 14 rebounds and three steals for Bard. Liz Freud and Joanna Regan added nine points apiece.

The Raptors will play their fifth straight road game to start the season at College of New Rochelle on Dec. 3. Tip is at 7 p.m.
