Bard falls to Wells in Brockport consolation game, 55-45

BROCKPORT, N.Y. - The Bard College women's basketball team lost to Wells College, 55-45, in the consolation game of the Brockport Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

Wells (1-1) jumped out to an 11-2 lead and dominated the game throughout. The Express used a full-court press to build a 26-8 lead at the midway point of the firsrt half. By halftime, Bard had 16 turnovers and it was 32-18. The Raptors shot 5-for-30 in the first 20 minutes while Wells shot 15-for-34.

Bard (0-2) cut the deficit to 13 in the first five minutes of the second half, but the bulge remained at between 17-22 for most of the second half. The Raptors scored the final 11 points of the game over the last five minutes and lost by 10.

The game was a matchup of the No. 1 and No. 2 rebounders in the nation last year - Ashley Roser (Taberg, NY) of Wells and Tytravia Riley of Bard. Both players had huge games.

Roser had 25 points, 11 rebounds, six steals and three blocked shots in just 27 minutes. Riley had 23 points, 17 rebounds and four steals in 37 minutes.

Joanna Regan added 10 points for the Raptors and was named to the All-Tournament team. Annie Kissel added three points and six rebounds, and Abbey Labrecque chipped in with four points and five rebounds.

The Raptors will be on the road again on Wednesday, taking on Purchase College at 7 p.m.
