Box Score ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - As crazy as it might sound, Saturday's 3-0 loss to 10th-ranked St. Lawrence University was the second solid game in a row for the Bard College men's soccer team.
And Friday's game was a 4-1 loss to Clarkson.
By way of explanation ... the Raptors were hoping to beat Clarkson on Friday, and that game was 2-1 for a long time before the Golden Knights added a couple of late goals as Bard pushed forward.
On Saturday, the Raptors were hoping to be competitive against a perennial Liberty League and national powerhouse. It was 1-0 at halftime and 3-0 at the end, and no Bard players were hanging their heads afterward.
True, St. Lawrence built a 36-2 edge in shots, and 12-0 in corners ... but Bard's effort to stay organized in back and limit scoring opportunities was effective in stretches.
Sophomore Seyefe Brouk (Pittsford, NY) opened the scoring in the 19
th minute when he collected a pass from junior Mark Provost (Toronto, ONT) in the box and beat Bard keeper
Daniel Gagne from close range.
Â
Provost made it 2-0 in the 47
th minute with an incredible blast from the right side that hit the upper right corner and bounced into the net. Andrew Bednarsky (Hackettstown, NJ) earned the assist.
Â
Provost finished the scoring in the 71
st minute, poking home a nice centering pass from Praveen Balakumaran (Markham, ONT).
Â
Bard didn't get a shot off until the 88
th minute, and in the 89
th minute, Aaron Costello was called on to make a save off a long shot from
Christian Letourneau (Saco, ME).
It was the last home game for Letourneau,
Vitor Neto Carvalho, and
Oscar Valdes. The Raptors are 2-15 overall, 0-7 in the Liberty League.
Bard has two games left, both on the road. The Raptors will play at SUNYIT on Tuesday, then at Vassar on Nov. 2.
