Bard drops Liberty League opener at Skidmore

Box Score SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - The Bard College women's basketball team was held to a season low in points and was outrebounded for the first time this season as Skidmore College captured the Liberty League debut for both teams, 59-36, on Friday night.

The game was close early, tied at 15-15 midway through the first half. But Skidmore (3-7 overall, 1-0 Liberty League) went on a 10-0 run over a five-minute span and eventually took a 28-21 lead into halftime. The rebounding edge after 20 minutes was 23-10 in favor of Skidmore.

The Thoroughbreds, who shot 44 percent from the first in the first half, made five three-pointers in the second half and grew their lead to 10, then 15, and the largest deficit was the final score, 23.

All 12 players who played for Skidmore scored, led by freshman Amber Holgate (Easton, MA), who had 10 points. Skidmore won the rebounding battle, 37-29.

Bard got 16 points, 10 rebounds, three steals and a block from freshman Tytravia Riley, who entered the game as the national Div. III leader in rebounds per game with 17.8. Victoria Fleisher added seven points.

Bard plays another Liberty League game on Saturday afternoon at 2 at Union College.
