Bard falls to Purchase in Raptors Classic

Box Score ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College men's soccer team was defeated by Purchase College, 6-2, in the Raptors Classic on Friday night.

SUNY New Paltz defeated College of Staten Island in the first game, 2-1. SUNY New Paltz will play Purchase on Saturday at 3 here, and Bard will host College of Staten Island on Oct. 8 to complete the tournament.

Purchase jumped on Bard in the second game, scoring three goals in the first 14:07. Chet Darrow cut the lead to 3-1 early in the second half on a penalty kick, but the Panthers (1-1) responded with the next two goals and the game was effectively over.

Freshman Troy Robertson (New Orleans, LA) scored his first collegiate goal to account for Bard's other tally.

Freshman Kevin Riveros (Port Chester, NY) scored twice and junior Andres Romero (Port Chester, NY) added a goal and three assists for the winners. Purchase outshot Bard 16-12, but Bard held a 5-3 advantage in corners.

Bard's goalkeeping duties were split; Dan Gagne made no saves and Gabe Rudd made four. The Raptors open the Liberty League season at Skidmore on Wednesday night.
