Men's soccer team tops Becker, 2-1

Senior Ammar Al-Rubaiay scored on a penalty kick in the first half, and Bard went on to defeat Becker, 2-1, on Saturday.

The Raptors got ahead with about 10 minutes to go in the first half when freshman striker Troy Robertson was brought down in the penalty area, and senior Ammar Al-Rubaiay converted the ensuing penalty kick.

About seven minutes into the second half, junior Christian Letourneau made it 2-0 with an unassisted goal. He struck a long shot from 30 yards out that got over the head of Becker keeper Albert Tabor (Willimantic, CT).

Becker (1-6) had chances to score, and outshot Bard 14-9, but freshman keeper Daniel Gagne made four saves and picked up the victory.

The Raptors, 2-3-1, are right back on the field Sunday afternoon for a match with Green Mountain College in Poultney, Vt., at 2 p.m. The Eagles picked up their first win of the season on Saturday, beating Johnson State, 1-0. They are 1-3 overall.
