Box Score CANTON, N.Y. - Bard's opportunity to sneak up on anyone in the Liberty League this season has officially lapsed.

The Raptors, 1-24 a year ago, are 2-0 after Saturday's stunning 58-45 win over host SUNY Canton at the Kevin Fee / Roos Classic. Canton ripped Bard, 65-33, at the same venue last year.

As in Friday's game against Morrisville State, this one had everything to do with the second half. The Raptors shot just 28 percent from the field and went 8-for-17 from the foul line in the first half, but it was tied, 23-23, at the break.

In the second half, Bard came out hot and took a four-point lead (33-29) with 14:38 left after a three-pointer by junior Victoria Fleisher. The key juncture in the game followed.

Freshman Tytravia Riley, who dominated for the second straight game, sat down with four fouls at the 11:13 mark and Bard up by five, 36-31. Less than three minutes later, the game was tied, 38-38, and it looked like the Roos had found some momentum with Riley on the bench.

Senior Imani Jones made consecutive jumpers on Bard's next two possessions, making it 42-38, and Canton never got closer. By the time Riley fouled out with 1:37 remaining, she had 22 points and 12 rebounds in just 20 minutes of action, and Bard was up by a dozen, 55-43.

Fleisher finished with 11 points, four assists and two rebounds; Bianka Bell, playing through foul trouble herself, had eight points and six rebounds; Joanna Regan had six points, six rebounds and four assists; Imani Jones had six points and 11 rebounds, and Liz Freud had five points and six rebounds.

Canton got 12 points and eight rebounds from senior Kaitlin Myers (Dannemora, NY).

The Raptors turned the ball over a lot (26) and missed a bunch of foul shots (17-for-33) but won going away. Clearly there's room for improvement, but there's also understandable excitement over the 2-0 start.

NOTES: Bard shot 43 percent from the field in the second half for the second straight game ... The last Bard women's basketball team to start the season 2-0 was the 2007-08 team. They started the season 4-0 and finished 10-15 ... Canton played Clarkson of the Liberty League in Potsdam on Thursday and won, 69-62.
