ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - Saturday's women's basketball game between St. Lawrence University, the first place team in the Liberty League, and Bard, the last place team, didn't start out the way one might expect.
Bard jumped out to a 10-2 lead, and even when St. Lawrence rallied, the game was still tied midway through the first half.
Eventually, St. Lawrence's superior depth and talent took over, as the Saints won, 70-33, but the Raptors again showed some improvement in the second half of the season.
Box score
Bard's 42 turnovers and a 40-28 deficit on the boards proved to be too much to overcome, but they did play the first place team in the league even for 10 minutes.
The Saints (14-4 overall, 10-0 Liberty League) got 16 points from freshman Kara McDuffee (Owego, NY), and 12 points and nine rebounds apiece from Katie Abramski (Oswego, NY) and Maddy Wetterhahn (Adams, NY).
Bard (1-17, 0-9) was led by freshman
Liz Freud, who had 14 points and four rebounds.
Joanna Regan added six points, four rebounds and three assists.
Next up for Bard is RPI, in Troy, on Tuesday night at 6.
