Raptors lose Liberty League debut

Imani Jones had eight points and nine rebounds against Vassar on Tuesday night.
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Bard College women's basketball team lost its Liberty League debut on Tuesday night, falling to Vassar College, 78-18.

When junior Imani Jones scored with 14:41 left in the first half, Bard had cut Vassar's lead to 8-5. But the Brewers outscored Bard 32-2 from there to halftime and rolled to an easy victory.

Vassar, 8-3 overall and 2-1 in the Liberty League, had five players score in double figures, led by freshman guard Nyah Berg (Sudbury, MA), who finished with 12 points. Cydni Matsuoka (Sacramento, CA), Hannah Senftleber (Burlington, VT), Allyson Pemberton (Weston, MA) and Michelle Foreman (Flemington, NJ) added 10 points apiece.

Bard (1-9, 0-1) got eight points and nine rebounds from Jones, and six points and four rebounds from freshman Liz Freud. The Raptors finished with 34 turnovers, including 20 in the first half.

Next up for Vassar is a non-conference game at home against Hartwick on Jan. 17.

Bard hits the road again on Friday for a Liberty League game at Skidmore College at 6 p.m.
