Bard men win tournament opener

Jacob Hartog congratulates Jonah Peterschild after No. 9 scored.
ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College men's soccer team won its first game of the season on Saturday, 3-0, over Green Mountain College on the first day of the Raptors Classic.

Junior Chet Darrow and senior Jonah Peterschild each had a goal and an assist as Bard scored as many goals in this game as they had all season so far.

Darrow got it started in the 20th minute. A direct kick from senior Stergios Mentesides was headed down into the box by freshman Gabriel Kilongo, and Darrow punched it home for a 1-0 lead.

Two minutes later, Darrow found Peterschild alone in front, and his shot rang in off the post to make it 2-0.

In the second half, a long ball from Peterschild found Hartog streaking to the near post, and he put a tough angle shot in for his first goal of the season, and a 3-0 lead.

Bard (1-3) outshot Green Mountain (0-2), 17-4.

In the other game of the day, SUNY New Paltz bested NYU-Poly, 1-0, on a penalty kick in the 64th minute.

On Sunday, SUNY New Paltz will play Green Mountain College at 1, and Bard will play NYU-Poly at 3.
