Bard fades in second half, falls to Morrisville State

Junior Julia Denning had six points and eight rebounds in a loss to Morrisville State on Saturday.
CANTON, N.Y. - The Bard College women's basketball team battled Morrisville State to a 20-20 tie at halftime of Saturday's game at the Kevin Fee / Roos Classic at SUNY Canton.

The Raptors were down 8-0 after three minutes, but rallied behind freshman Liz Freud, who had 11 points and five rebounds at the break.

The second half started innocently enough, and with about 15 minutes left, the Raptors were still within striking distance, down 29-25.

Then the wheels came off.

Morrisville State went on a 24-3 run over the next minutes, and Bard was defeated, 60-35.

The Raptors went 0-for-7 from the field during that crucial stretch, and they are 0-3. Overall in the second half, they made just 2-of-17 shots from the field, while Morrisville State (1-2) was shooting 18-of-34.

Freud finished with 15 points and eight rebounds; Julia Denning added six points and eight rebounds; Imani Jones had five points and 13 rebounds; and Amy Strawbridge had five points and three rebounds.

Morrisville State got 18 points and seven rebounds from sophomore Nijah Townsend (Bronx, N.Y.)

Up next for Bard is another non-league game, this time against Yeshiva University at 8 p.m. on Tuesday. That game will be played at Baruch College.
