Bard loses opener at home

Imani Jones had 10 points and four rebounds, but Bard lost its opener.
ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The tone was set early, when Bard's first three shots of the season were blocked.

Albany College of Pharmacy jumped out to a 17-2 lead and rolled over Bard, 74-33, in a non-conference game on Tuesday night.

The Raptors, 0-1, fell behind by 35-10 at halftime, but played much better in the second half. After shooting just 18 percent from the field in the first 20 minutes, Bard shot 36 percent in the second half.

But Albany Pharmacy's huge advantage in points in the paint - 38-8 - proved to be far too much to overcome as Bard opened the season with a loss.

Every player on the roster for Albany Pharmacy scored, led by senior Katie McCormack (Proctor, VT), who had 18 points off the bench. Senior Alyson Johnson (Malone, NY) added 13 points and five blocks.

Bard got 10 points apiece from Amy Strawbridge and Imani Jones, and Victoria Fleisher added nine points. Freshman Liz Freud, playing in her first college game, didn't score but was the game's top rebounder with 10.

Bard's next game is on Friday at the SUNY Canton Tournament. The Raptors will play SUNY Canton on Friday and SUNY Morrisville on Saturday.
