ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Against one of the hottest teams in the Liberty League, Bard came up just short.
RIT senior David Gaulocher (Old Greenwich, CT) fired a shot from 22 yards out that deflected off a Bard defender and went in with 7:22 left in the second overtime to give the Tigers a 2-1 victory on Saturday. It was the fifth straight win for RIT and its seventh in eight games.
It looked like RIT was going to cruise to a win, because the Tigers went up, 1-0, on a goal in the 33rd minute, and dominated play throughout the game, producing a 25-4 advantage in shots as the game reached the final minutes.
But Bard senior
Jacob Hartog fired a cross into the box, and sophomore
Christian Letourneau headed it past RIT keeper Sean Conway with 1:38 left in regulation time, knotting the game at 1-1.
It was the first goal conceded by RIT since a Sept. 17 non-conference game against SUNY-Oswego, a streak of 752 consecutive scoreless minutes, a school record. The Tigers are 9-3-2 overall, 5-0-1 in the Liberty League.
Bard (3-11, 0-6 Liberty League) didn't get a shot off in either overtime. Senior
Deven Connelly made eight saves.
Next up for the Raptors is a non-conference game against Sarah Lawrence College on Thursday at home at 8 p.m.
