PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Bard College women's basketball team rallied from a 13-point second-half deficit and took the lead with six minutes to go in the game, but SUNY Purchase did enough down the stretch to pull out a 60-54 Skyline Conference victory on Thursday night.
Bard shot 42 percent in the second half to come back against the Panthers, who led by 11 at halftime. When sophomore
Imani Jones (Brooklyn, NY) hit a jumper with 6:06 remaining, Bard took a 48-47 lead. Purchase got the lead back, and Bard tied it with just over four minutes left, but the Panthers made 5-of-6 foul shots in the final minute or so to earn the victory.
Bard's rally was built on defense, as the Raptors forced 12 turnovers in the second half alone - and those turnovers led to 13 of Bard's 32 second-half points.
Freshman
Victoria Fleisher (Brooklyn, NY) scored 10 of her team-high 13 points in the second half, including 2-of-3 three-pointers in the final 20 minutes.
Freshman
Amy Strawbridge (Indianapolis, IN) finished with 12 points, while senior
Latiqua Williams (Bay Shore, NY) contributed 10 points and six rebounds. Jones led Bard in rebounds with 10, and she added four points. Sophomore
Ruth Ashebir (Addis Ababa, Ethiopia) chipped in with seven points and seven rebounds.
The Raptors are 2-12 overall, 1-8 in the Skyline Conference.
SUNY Purchase (4-9, 4-5 Skyline) got 16 points and seven rebounds from MaryAlice Palmer (Reno, NV) and 15 points and 12 rebounds from Rachel Perrone (Poughquag, NY).
Bard next plays on Saturday in a Skyline Conference game at SUNY Old Westbury.
