ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - Through 30 minutes of action on Saturday, the Bard College women's basketball team had Skyline Conference rival Sage right where it wanted them.
In a defensive struggle, Bard took the lead early in the first half and held it right up until there were just under 10 minutes left in the game.
Then it all came apart.
Sage went on a 16-2 run over the last 10 minutes and defeated Bard, 42-33, to improve to 5-9 overall, 4-5 in the Skyline Conference.
Bard has one of its better-shooting first halves (33 percent) and held a 19-15 lead at halftime. The Raptors battled and held a 31-26 lead with 10:10 left in the game.
But Bard missed 10 of its next 11 shots, while Sage made four its next nine plus 7-of-11 foul shots down the stretch.
Sage got 12 points and eight rebounds from freshman Chelsea Martin (Davenport, NY), nine points from Carly Vallee, and seven points and nine rebounds from Kelsey Frament.
Bard (2-11 overall, 1-7 Skyline) got nine points, 15 rebounds and five steals from senior
Latiqua Williams (Bay Shore, NY), eight points from freshman
Victoria Fleisher (Brooklyn, NY) and six points, five rebounds and four assists from sophomore
Imani Jones (Brooklyn, NY). Senior
Marissa Papatola added four points and 10 rebounds, as Bard outrebounded Sage, 45-31.
Bard next plays on Thursday at Skyline Conference foe SUNY Purchase at 6 p.m.
