Bard impressive in 1-0 win

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - Junior Jacob Hartog (San Francisco, CA) scored off a brilliant individual effort in the first half, and the Bard College men's soccer team held on for a 1-0 Skyline Conference victory over Maritime in a foul-filled game on Saturday afternoon.

Hartog broke away and split two defenders in the 16th minute. Maritime goalkeeper Harris Papson came out to smother Hartog's shot, but the blast from close range deflected off Papson, bounced a couple of times and rolled slowly across the goal line.

Maritime, 4-2 in the Skyline Conference and 8-6 overall, had several forays into the box after that point, particularly in the second half, but the Raptors hung on for a key conference win. Maritime collected 13 corner kicks to Bard's 2, for example.

Junior goalkeeper Deven Connelly (High Falls, NY) made five saves, playing aggressively and punching away several other chances the Privateers produced.

Bard, 3-2 in Skyline play and 5-7 overall, next plays at Mount St. Vincent on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
