Four Women’s Lacrosse Student-Athletes named to the 2024 Division III Academic All-District Team

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.— Four members of the Bard College women's lacrosse team were honored as the 2024 Division III Academic All-District At-Large Team, an award that recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performance on the field and in the classroom. 

The four students honored were juniors Maya Junkins, Maggy Peyton, Izzi Popolizio and Morgan Ruhle

Junior Maya Junkins is studying art history and visual culture. Junkins played and started in 14 of the Raptors 17 games as one of the primary attackers. She led the team in draw controls with 39 and ranked fifth in the team for points with eight. Junkins added three goals, five assists and 14 ground balls. 

Junior Maggy Peyton is studying sociology and studio art. Peyton played in 16 games with 15 starts for the Raptors, finishing tied for first in goals with 24 and second in points with 32. She ranked second in the team with 27 draw controls and added 13 ground balls and eight assists. This season, Peyton set the new single-game record for goals in a game with eight against Centenary. She is also a two-time Liberty League All-Academic Honoree. 

Junior Izzi Popolizio is studying environmental and urban studies. Popolizio started in all 17 games for the Raptors as the main catalyst of the offense. She led the team in assists with 24 and points with 46. Popolizio added 25 groundballs, five draw controls and six caused turnovers. This season, Popolizio set the new school record for assists in a season and etched herself at second in the all-time career list. She is also a two-time Liberty League All-Academic Honoree. 

Lastly, junior Morgan Ruhle is studying mathematics and psychology. Ruhle started all 17 games for the Raptors as a defender. She ranked second in groundballs with 39 and ranked seventh in the league for groundballs per game (2.29). Ruhle ranked second in caused turnover (18) and added four goals and 12 draw controls. She is also a two-time Liberty League All-Academic Honoree. 

To be nominated for At-Large Academic All-District Team, the athlete must have a GPA of 3.50 or above and must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically. The student-athlete has to have competed in 90% of the Team's total games played or have started 66% of the Team's total games. The Academic All-District Team is selected by the College Sports Communicators.
