ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College women's lacrosse team fell to Clarkson University, 16-6, Saturday afternoon to wrap up the 2017 season.
The Raptors finished 4-10 overall and 0-9 in conference play. The four wins tied last season's win total, though the team did so in fewer games in 2017. Meanwhile, the Golden Knights of Clarkson improved to 10-7, 3-6 LL, but will miss out on the Liberty League playoffs.
Clarkson struck first on the day, scoring the opening goal two minutes in. From there, they added six more goals over the next seven minutes to go up, 7-0.
Raptors' leading goal scorer,
Caleigh DeCaprio, broke the scoreless streak for Bard ten minutes into the game, as she found the back of the net following a great set up from
Melissa Rosenthal.
The Golden Knights responded by scoring twice more, before
Dylan McDonald added a goal on a great individual effort for Bard's second score of the half. The Raptors entered halftime trailing, 12-2.Â
In the second half, McDonald, Rosenthal,
Casey Witte and
Nicole Ellin all added goals for Bard, as the six goals were the most Bard had scored in a Liberty League game since April 1st, 2016 against Vassar.Â
The Raptors were outshot in the contest, 30-14, and lost the turnover and draw control battles. Groundballs were nearly identical between the two squads, but clears were decisively in the favor of Clarkson, who completed 90% of its attempts compared to Bard's 50%.
Kaylynn Tran collected 10 saves, Rosenthal picked up five groundballs and Ellin finished with three draw controls for Bard.
The Golden Knights were led by Ashley Flick (Watertown, NY), who scored four times and assisted on two other goals.Â
As for the 2017 season as a whole, Rosenthal finished as Bard's leader in points with 33 for the year. She tallied 18 goals and 15 assists, while DeCaprio finished a close second with 31 points (24 goals, 7 assists).Â
Ellin and McDonald also recorded double-digit goal seasons with 18 and 14 respectively,
The team had no seniors in 2017, so the roster should look similar entering next year. The Raptors will return to action in March 2018.Â
