Raptors rally late, fall at St. Lawrence, 72-65

CANTON, N.Y. – The Bard College women's basketball team used a late run to cut a 14-point deficit to four with 3:45 left, but the Raptors lost to St. Lawrence University, 72-65, in a Liberty League game on Saturday afternoon.

Bard (5-8, 0-4 Liberty League) led by one after the first quarter, trailed by nine at halftime, and were down by as much as 14 in the third quarter. But the Raptors opened the fourth quarter on a 12-4 run - six from Tytravia Riley - to cut the lead to 62-57. A layup from Annie Kissel and a free throw from Riley, and it was 64-60.

Bard committed fouls on the next four Saints' possessions, and St. Lawrence made six free throws. It eventually was an 8-0 run, and Bard just ran out of time to get back in it.

Caroline Dalton (Rochester, NY) led St. Lawrence (8-2, 2-0 LL) with 16 points. Ellie Gonyeau (Hudson Falls, NY) added 14.

Riley produced her 12th double-double of the season with 25 points and 14 rebounds for the Raptors. Bianka Bell had 21 points and three assists - 13 of those points came in the first quarter. Freshman Sarah Morris added nine points, and freshman Katie Hopper grabbed seven rebounds.

After starting the conference season with four straight road games, Bard returns home next weekend. The Raptors will host Union and Skidmore on Friday and Saturday, respectively. Bell will enter the weekend with 977 career points.
