ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - Wednesday night was time to celebrate Bard Athletics, and the huge turnout could mean a change of venue for next year's Student-Athlete Awards Banquet.
The annual event, hosted by Athletic Director Kris Hall, gave Bard coaches a chance to recognize the efforts of their teams and individual players, and it gave the Athletic Department an opportunity to thank those who have contributed to the recent growth of all the programs.
Bard men's and women's tennis coach Fred Feldman was honored for being the winningest coach in the school's history, and the longest tenured. He's been coaching women's tennis at Bard for 21 years.
A special thank you went out to Charles Stevenson Jr., the chairman of Bard's Board of Trustees, and it was delivered by Assistant Vice President for Administration Coleen Murphy Alexander. Stevenson planned to speak at the event, but bad weather made getting to Bard hazardous. Stevenson donated the money that built the gymnasium (1989) and library (1992) at Bard, and another generous gift has led to the recent expansion and renovation of the Stevenson Gymnasium.
When complete, the facility will be renamed the Stevenson Athletic Center.
For the second year in a row, the Male Student-Athlete of the Year Award was shared by volleyball player
Nick Chan and soccer player
Jacob Hartog. On the women' s side the award was also split, this time between soccer/lacrosse player
Kim Larie and soccer/track athlete
Perry Scheetz.
